Welcome back to our returning Community Show exhibitors!
- Exhibitor registration is required so prize money can be mailed to the winning exhibitors. At registration, all exhibitors will be requested to provide a complete address and cell, home and/or work phone numbers in case there are issues with any prize money mailings that are returned.
- In the gymnasium, there are signs for each Department with its registration table and volunteers ready to accept your exhibits!
- If you have any questions, our Community Show volunteers can assist you!
REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS
Sunday, Sept. 8 from 3:00 – 5:30pm
- Exhibits may not be removed until 3pm Sunday, Sept. 8.
- All exhibits must be picked up on Sunday, Sept. 8 between 3-5:30pm.
- If you are unable to pick up your entries, please have a family member or friend pick them up for you.
- Any remaining entries may be picked up on Monday, Sept. 9
from 9am – Noon

2024 COMMUNITY SHOW RULES
No animals are allowed inside the school – except service animals.
- Free Entry of Exhibits: Catoctin High School gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 5:30-8:30pm and Friday, Sept. 6 from 8:30-11:30am. At registration, all exhibitors will be requested to provide a complete address and cell, home and/or work phone number(s) to prevent any delays in receiving premium checks or issues with any mailings which are returned. There will be reserved parking for exhibitors near the gym’s entrance.
- Eligible Exhibitors: Residents of Catoctin area feeder schools: Emmitsburg Elementary, Thurmont Primary, Thurmont Elementary, Thurmont Middle, Lewistown Elementary, Mother Seton School, Catoctin High School and Home-Schooled students. Sabillasville Environmental School (SES) students need to be a resident of the Catoctin area feeder schools listed or be a SES’s Youth Agriculture Club member.
- For each class, only one entry per person is allowed and all exhibits must be grown or made by the exhibitor. Please check under Dept. headings for potential additional rules.
- All Baked Products will be entered at Dept. 9 – Baked Products
(Adults, Junior (Ages 10 & under) and Youth (Ages 11-18).
All Baked Products become the property of the Community Show Committee and will be auctioned at the Baked Goods Auction on Friday evening at 7:30pm in the auditorium. Any baked goods item deemed to be unsaleable for the baked goods auction is at the discretion of the judges and/or the Community Show committee. - No entry that has won in former years is eligible for a prize, excluding baked products. Eligible entries are non-perishable entries made since the Sept. 8-10, 2023 Community Show.
- Dept. 22 – Junior Dept. is for Ages 10 & under. Dept. 23 – Youth Dept. is for Ages 11-18. All other Departments are “Open Class” except for Dept. 21 – Dairy Cattle, Dept. 21a – Dairy Goats, and the Youth Livestock Classes for Beef, Sheep, Swine and Market Goats.
- For Dept. 12 – Fine Arts, ALL entries are required to be ready to hang for display purposes.
- For ALL Photography entries, there are specific photo sizes and additional requirements: please see the rules for Dept. 14 -Photography, Dept. 22 – Junior Dept. and Dept. 23 – Youth Dept’s photography classes.
- This Community Show is being held under rules governed by and with the assistance of the Maryland Agricultural Fair Board, with approximately $13,000 in premiums and ribbons to be won by exhibitors. Participation ribbons will be awarded in the Junior Dept only. Honorable mention ribbons will be awarded at the judge’s discretion.
- For each department, the judges will select a Dept. Champion and a Reserve Dept. Champion, which will be displayed on the Champion Table at the gym’s center.
- Each Dept. Champion will receive a $10 Gift Certificate from Bollinger’s Restaurant in Thurmont and each Reserve Dept. Champion will receive a $5 gift certificate from Carleo Italian Pizza in Emmitsburg.
- The judge’s placings will be accepted as final, and no nude or distasteful entries will be accepted. The Community Show Committee is not responsible in case of fire, theft, or accident, and reserves the right to pass on any decision not covered by these rules.
- The Community Show is being hosted at Catoctin High School; therefore, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) policies govern this event. FCPS requirements with guidelines effective during this event will be posted here: www.fcps.org/uof
- Removal of Exhibits: Exhibits may NOT be removed until Sunday, Sept. 8 starting at 3pm. All exhibits MUST be picked up on Sunday, Sept. 8 between 3-5:30pm. If you are unable to pick up your entries, please have a family member or friend pick them up for you. Any remaining entries may be picked up on Monday, Sept. 9 from 9am-Noon in the Ag Dept. at the back of the school.
- Premium Checks will be mailed to all winners by Nov. 15, 2024 and will be void 60 days after the check’s date. From the Community Show, each Dept. Champion will receive an additional $5 premium and each Reserve Dept. Champion will receive an additional $3 premium.
